Moleskine City Notebook
For the occasion of the 600th birthday of the University of Leipzig the City and Location Marketing has acquired a genuine "cultural product" for Leipzig: For the book fair (March 2009) a City Notebook for Leipzig was published by the Moleskin company. With the „Special Edition 600 Years of University of Leipzig“ the Saxon metropolis has joined the prominent ranks of about 40 cities worldwide to which a Moleskine City Notebook has been dedicated. The Stadt- und Standortmarketing der Leipzig Tourismus und Marketing GmbH took over from the lift-off – the first address of the Moleskine Publishing House – the most important work in realising the City Notebook of Leipzig via the concept and the statements from authors and marketing partners up to the release party and advertising and was able to acquire the Leipzig University as partner.
The "travel guides" are designed as personal guides in English. Over half the pages consist of the classical "place for notes". Special registers can be used for entries referring to restaurants, museums and important appointments. Practical overview maps and detail plans of the urban districts similar to a travel guide are a perfect orientation basis for guests or for discovering the city. With the help of twelve transparent, re-usable adhesive stickers, favourite routes, places and notes can be marked as wished. The Leipzig edition is also something special because of its 32 pages dedicated to the university and the jubilee celebrations and that it closes with an 18-page "Declaration of Love " to his city by the writer Claudius Nießen.
The notebooks have cult status by reason of their history alone: They trace back to the notebooks of French artists and intellectuals at the beginning of the 20th century. Their simplicity and functionality embody the worldwide cult following even today the aura of the free spirit. Any number of artists and authors have used them for notes and drawings, including Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Ernest Hemingway and Bruce Chatwin. The Leipzig edition could also become a collector's item within a short time. It is also possible that visitors of Moleskine's „Detour Wanderausstellung“ (Touring Exhibition) in which renowned artists and writers have made their very personal notes are introduced, also browse in an individually drawn up Leipzig City Notebook.
It can be bought for 15.90 euro in Leipzig Tourist Information Bureau (Richard-Wagner-Straße 1, 04109 Leipzig).
