With a well-targeted communication mix, Marketing Leipzig GmbH made a strong impact during international events. Take Athens 2004, for example – during the Olympic Games, Marketing Leipzig GmbH took responsibility for staging an extraordinary event. 


TV Commercials: Leipzig in the limelight

Leipzig is the first East German city to draw attention to itself by using TV and cinema advertising! The 30 and 60 second English and German language marketing films have so far been aired on ZDF, CNN, Deutsche Welle Worldwide, SAT.1, CNBC, N24 and ProSieben. In addition to this, ads are also planned for transmission through hotel chains and airlines.  


Billboards

Billboard posters, in the so-called 18/1 format, in major German cities, attracted attention to Leipzig in 2003. In important German conurbations such as Hamburg, Munich, Cologne and Düsseldorf, among others, the "Leipziger Freiheit" campaign was used to advertise cultural events such as the Bach Festival or trade and industry events such as the BIO CITY LEIPZIG. At 84 central locations all year round in Leipzig, billboards with the different motifs and figures can be seen promoting Leipzig. For example there is the BMW motifs and the "Tatort" (TV show) detectives, Peter Sodann and Bernd Michael Lade, the writer Erich Loest, Pastor Christian Führer, the "Stadtwerke" and the Leipzig Handball Masters Tournament. 

Leading personalities for "Leipziger Freiheit"

With star conductor Prof. Kurt Masur, writer Erich Loest and Pastor Christian Führer, these decisive examples of leading personalities of Leipzig add commercial appeal to their city's campaign. All three have a close relationship with Leipzig and an unflagging commitment to the fundamental values of freedom. Through their loyal association and personal association with the campaign, they encourage discourse on the theme of liberty and "Leipziger Freiheit".


Publications: Communicating the campaign

By means of a regular published newsletter, up-to-date brochure and the homepage, "Leipziger Freiheit" keeps you informed of the on-going activities. In addition, the Leipzig marketing campaign draws public awareness by publishing newspaper articles, supplements and specials


Print media advertisements: Rousing pictures, credible messages

The application of the marketing campaign, using full-page colour print media advertisements, has been running since the end of 2002. Ads have been placed in the national and international print media such as SPIEGEL, Wirtschaftswoche, Handelsblatt, Business Week, in FOCUS, Die Zeit and the Financial Times Deutschland.


"Leipziger Freiheit" ? at trade fairs and exhibitions

Combining strength is the key to success. To this end, Leipziger Freiheit" is making its presence felt at trade fairs and exhibitions. Recently in March 2004, "Leipziger Freiheit" participated in the world's most important location promotion fair "MIPIM" (Meet, Interact, Put into perspective, Imagine, Make) which took place between 9th and 12th Mar 2004 in Cannes, France. In cooperation with LWB (Leipziger Wohnungs- und Baugesellschaft mbH), Marketing Leipzig directed all 14 000 eyes present on Leipzig.
At Germany's largest location and real-estate trade fair, Expo Real in Munich, the campaign and the Leipzig Office for Economic Development will join forces for the second time this year. At Leipzig's 120m2 joint exhibition stand, Marketing Leipzig GmbH, other local companies and municipal institutions promoted Leipzig's advantages with information material, posters, the TV commercial and the airship.
Another highlight of the campaign on the trade fair calendar was its presence at the international tourism trade fair "GO" in the Czech city of Brno. Marketing Leipzig GmbH used the Reception for European and International Cooperation for Leipzig as a platform to establish contact with investors, opinion leaders, location marketing experts and tourism professionals.

"Leipziger Freiheit" is making its present felt on a national and international level in numerous ways apart from the well-worn marketing paths. One extraordinary example of this was the involvement in the Saxon Sail to St. Petersburg for the widely observed 300 year anniversary of the city. In Munich, on Ludwigstrasse or at the Athletics World Championships in Paris – “Leipziger Freiheit” is everywhere.

A normal city without thinkers and without visionaries … For this reason, "Leipziger Freiheit" is, of course, available to the people of Leipzig, meaning they can truly identify with a confident and strongly integrated city.
